West Brom striker Solomon Rondon is nearing a move to Newcastle United, with the two clubs reportedly agreeing to a fee and the player having held talks in the north east.

According to the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (8th July 2018), the Venezuelan striker is set to complete his move to the Magpies after seeing his relegation release clause activated by the Rafa Benitez.

Rondon was one of few standout players for the Baggies last season as he put in some excellent performances which sometimes didn't yield the goals that his workrate perhaps deserved.

However, he is seen as a proven Premier League striker with his pedigree, and a move back to the top flight was always going to be likely for Rondon as soon as West Brom's relegation from the top flight was confirmed.

Newcastle manager Benitez is keen to make some new additions this summer after guiding the Toon to safety last term, a feat which has been praised given the club's relatively low activity in the transfer market in the past 12 months.

Rondon will be hoping to fire in the goals for the Magpies and endear himself to the Toon Army in a similar way he has done at the Hawthorns.
