Bristol City are struggling to agree terms to sign Nahki Wells on a permanent basis despite Burnley's decision to recall the striker from his QPR loan spell, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (27/01, 10:38).

The Clarets confirmed on Monday morning that they have exercised their right to cut short Wells' loan spell in West London in order to "determine his long-term future", and it has emerged that the Robins are in talks over signing the 29-year-old.

However, it is being claimed that City are yet to strike a deal with Burnley to sign the £4million-rated forward before the deadline later this week, while Nottingham Forest and QPR are reportedly also waiting in the wings to pounce for the striker.

City are still understood to be discussing a deal which could see midfielder Josh Brownhill join Burnley in exchange for Wells' services, with Lee Johnson looking to bolster his side's attacking ranks before the fast-approaching deadline.

Wells is attracting transfer interest following his stand-out displays for QPR this campaign which have seen him net 13 goals in 26 league games for Mark Warburton's side, with QPR chief executive Lee Hoos having stated the club are keen to re-sign Wells.

The Verdict

The Robins have now been in the market for a new striker since the start of the transfer window, and it is now of paramount importance that they tie up a deal for an attacking player with the transfer deadline now just around the corner.

It appears as though the Ashton Gate outfit have identified Wells as their primary target with the end of the month drawing closer, and this means the south-west side should now make every effort to land the attacker this month.

A transfer fee of £4million is not an unreasonable amount for a striker who has scored one goal every two league games this season, and the Robins should really now take the plunge and finalise a deal for the attacker.

It has been well documented that Wells would be keen on a permanent move to QPR, so it is crucial that City try and get this deal over the line before the West London side step up their pursuit of the prolific forward.
