The rumoured links between Bristol City and Wigan attacker Josh Windass are "inaccurate", according to journalist Gregor MacGregor.

It was previously reported by the Daily Mail that Windass, 26, was a target for the Robins, as they look to bolster their attacking ranks before next Friday's deadline. Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City were among the other Championship clubs that were also reportedly keeping an eye on the forward.

However, MacGregor has confirmed that Bristol City are not actively pursuing the forward, and that there is been "no interest" at all from the Robins for the 26-year-old.

QUIZ: Do you know where these fifteen ex-Bristol City players are playing now?

Windass has featured a total of 15 times in the Championship for Wigan Athletic this season, scoring four goals.

The Robins have been linked with a number of other players this week, with both Ivan Toney and Nahki Wells emerging as two striking options the club are looking to pursue before next Friday.

Toney, 23, is currently at League One side Peterborough United. The forward is the top scorer in the division with 17 goals.

Meanwhile, Wells is on loan at QPR from Burnley, and has found the net 13 times in the Championship this term.

The Bristol Post have also reported that the club are interested in Leicester City's Filip Benkovic. which would likely be a loan deal for the 22-year-old Croatian.

The Verdict

The reports linking Windass with Bristol City are just a case of rumours that did not happen to be true, and Robins fans will now know where the club stand on the situation.

Seven days remain of the transfer window, and despite the club being linked with many different names, no significant business has been done as of yet.

So far, there has only been outgoings at Ashton Gate.

Sammie Szmodics and Bailey Wright have both left the club on loan, and Rodri's short term contract ended at the beginning of the month. He has since signed for Spanish second-tier side Real Oviedo.
