Key talks between Sky Bet League Two clubs are set to take place, as higher up the Football League, the likes of Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City await key decisions to be made as their respective promotion pushes hang in the balance.
Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table and on the cusp of a Premier League return, whilst West Brom are second to them. In the third-tier, Coventry lead the way comfortably at the top, with the Sky Blues expected to secure a timely promotion.
Yet, further down the footballing ladder in League Two, the Sun have revealed that key talks are being held about ending the season now, with repercussions potentially affecting things as high as the Premier League.
It is noted that if a number of clubs push for the season to end as things stand, that could lead to a vote and a push for the campaign to end now; citing that extra costs for continuing the season aren’t affordable for League Two clubs who will not have gate receipts due to the fact games will be behind closed doors.
The report signs off by stating if the League Two proposal gathers momentum, the Premier League could follow suit, which could allow the muted 22-team top-flight idea gaining traction.
Up in the Championship, Leeds’ players have been on record stating they want the season to finish, with it their view that they would want to win promotion the ‘right way’.
Things are at risk of getting messy in the Football League, with League Two and Championship clubs seemingly wanting very different things at this stage.
This feels like a very important meeting taking place in League Two, and when you consider it might even get the Premier League buckling, you realise its significance.
The next few weeks will be interesting to watch develop.
