Sunderland owner Steward Donald has revealed that there could be five new faces at the Stadium of Light as Jack Ross continues to reshape his squad.

The former St. Mirren boss took over last month after successive relegations for the Black Cats so it was always going to be a busy summer.

Big earners have been shifted on, with more to follow, whilst seven players have also come through the door including Dylan McGeouch and Chris Maguire.

However, the Sunderland Echo revealed how Donald told fans on twitter that they should expect up to five more new players ahead of their first game of the season against Charlton on August 4.

"To all the @SunderlandAFC I will be relaxing today following England - Other than trying to strengthen the team with 4 or 5 signings of course - that will hopefully be just what we need. Might even spend some ur [money] in the process!!!! I’m on it - enjoy the game!!"

The report also states that two strikers are on the shortlist, with Ross short on natural number nines in his squad.

The Verdict

This is good news for Sunderland fans as the reality is that the squad are weak in several areas, particularly up front.

So far, they have done some good business, with the signing of McGeouch very impressive and they will hope for a similar calibre of player coming in.

Either way, it's good to see that the owner recognises he needs to back Ross and now it's about finding the right signings.
