Sunderland owner Stewart Donald praised the clubs supporters as the Black Cats fought back to draw with Oxford yesterday.

Jack Ross' side went a goal down to an effort from Ricky Holmes and their task was made much tougher when midfielder Max Power was sent off in the 19th minute.

However, they battled back to earn a draw, roared on by a massive crowd of over 32,000 at the Stadium of Light.

And, the Sunderland Echo reveal how Donald took to twitter to thank the fans for their turnout and how they backed the team.

"Thank u again to all the @SunderlandAFC fans. Stuck with the team after a slow start and the noise when we scored was incredible."

"Down to 10 men early on and a goal down it could have been a tough day but the fans and players stuck together and that showed. Thank u all."

The draw ensures that the north east side remain unbeaten this season, collecting 14 points from their first six games so far in League One.

The Verdict

Firstly you have to say that getting such a crowd in the third tier is remarkable and it shows just how big a club Sunderland are.

It also demonstrates how the club are now pulling in the same direction, with the fans happy with how things have changed over the summer.

Given that, the Stadium of Light should be a really tough place for visiting teams and collecting points at home will be crucial to their promotion push.
