Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has revealed that the players would love Atdhe Nuhiu to get a new deal at Hillsborough with his current contract set to expire in June.

The powerful striker has emerged as a key man in recent weeks and scored both goals as the Owls beat Yorkshire rivals Leeds United last time out in what was a crucial win.

And, as quoted by the Sheffield Star, Bannan said that his teammates want him to stay. "It’s not for me to speak about but from the players’ point of view it would be great to see him staying because he’s a big character and everybody loves him."

The Scotland international also stated that a new deal would be deserved for Nuhiu given the performances that he has put in recently.

"The big man’s been brilliant. I’ve been watching for three months and he’s been one of our best players. You know what you’re going to get from him, he’s going to give 100%, he’s a handful for defenders."

Nuhiu's brace at Elland Road took the striker to seven goals for the season in all competitions.

The Verdict

It's clear that Nuhiu is a well-respected figure at Wednesday and he does bring a lot to the team even without scoring.

However, the decision is going to be all on the manager. The Owls have a lot of options in the final third when everyone is fit and the Kosovo international may not fit in.

All Nuhiu can do is keep playing well and scoring goals, like he did at Leeds.
