Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a glimmer of hope in their fight to avoid relegation.

It always looked likely to be a difficult campaign for the Owls after they started the season with a points deduction that put them at an immediate disadvantage in English football's second tier.

However there's no escaping the fact that results have been poor over the course of the season.

Wednesday have been anchored to the relegation zone for the entire season and in recent weeks it has appeared that relegation to League One looked like a probability, more than a possibility.

However fans will be praying that a late push for survival could be brewing.

Darren Moore's side recorded a much-needed victory on Tuesday evening after recording a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough, a result that has put them just four points from safety.

While there's only three matches left it's clear that the odds are against the Owls, but one player in Josh Windass had a simple message for supporters on social media.

Taking to Twitter, Windass said: "Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.

"Sheffield Wednesday, keep believing."

The verdict

They couldn't do it, could they?

Sheffield Wednesday have looked certain to suffer relegation over the course of this season but they're still firmly in the hunt to avoid the drop.

Being honest, it's highly unlikely that they'll manage it but stranger things have certainly happened.
