Garry Monk has hinted that Sheffield Wednesday are moving closer to completing some transfer business.

The Owls have been linked with a number of names this month as they look to strengthen their push for a play-off spot this season.

Strikers have been tipped as the main target area for the South Yorkshire side with the likes of Connor Wickham tipped with a move.

The Crystal Palace forward has fallen down the pecking order at Selhurst Park meaning that he is being tipped for a loan move to the Championship.

While Monk didn't name names, he hinted that a transfer breakthrough could be on the cards.

He said: "We are further down the line with certain options but there is nothing concrete just yet.

"We’re not quite there yet but hopefully it can happen as soon as possible."

The verdict

While Garry Monk refused to divulge details, it's certainly positive that Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing January additions.

The Owls are enjoying an excellent season so far and find themselves in sixth place in the Championship - meaning that a push for promotion is a genuine aspiration.

There's still a long way to go this term but if Wednesday can make some shrewd additions to provide a little bit more of a cutting edge then few would against them being able to squeeze into the play-off spots come the end of the season.
