Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Agnew has piled praise on winger Adam Reach, dubbing him one of the best players in the league, report the Sheffield Star.

Agnew is taking charge of first-team affairs until new manager Steve Bruce takes over next month after the sacking of Jos Luhukay at the end of 2018.

"I had Adam at Middlesbrough a number of years ago," Agnew said after the Owls FA Cup draw with Luton Town.

"He's now matured and has gone from a boy to a man. He is terrific.

"For me, he's one of the best players in the Championship."

Reach made the move from Middlesbrough to Wednesday in the summer of 2016, going on to make 122 appearances for the Owls, scoring 14 goals in the process.

Seven of those strikes have come during the current season with many of them being spectacular efforts, including strikes against Leeds United and Boro.

The Owls' season is in the balance at the moment, sat in 16th place on 32 points, just ten more than Bolton Wanderers who currently occupy the final spot in the relegation zone but also just 11 behind sixth-placed Derby County.

The verdict

It is hard to disagree with Agnew here.

Reach has been outstanding and considering he has been so successful without a settled front-line to feed all season it makes it all the more impressive.

Losing him in January would be a huge blow for Wednesday and could well see them fall right into a relegation scrap.
