Sheffield Wednesday Chairman Dejphon Chansiri remains hopeful that the Owls can still mount a promotion push this season despite their poor first half to the season that resulted in Carlos Carvalhal’s sacking.

Wednesday are way down in 16th place, some 13 points behind the top six, however the owner is refusing to rule out a late surge for the top six.

Although, when speaking to the Sheffield Star he did acknowledge it would be a big ask. “I think it is quite difficult now because we are in 16th position but I think if you look at the points, we still have enough points.”

We have another 20 games. It is quite difficult but there are still enough points to be there if we have a little bit of luck and maybe a miracle. I believe we have a good coach. Maybe we can be there.”

Wednesday have been on a dismal run in recent weeks, winning just once in ten games and losing five of their last six games ahead of Friday’s massive Steel City derby which will be new manager Jos Luhukay’s first in charge.

The Verdict

He may think it’s possible but the reality is that Wednesday would need to replicate the sort of form that Wolves have shown so far this season to have any chance of making the play-offs.

Therefore, as much as Chansiri, and maybe even some fans, will harbour hope of a late push, it’s not going to happen.

Whilst he has admitted it’s a long shot, the new manager doesn’t need the added pressure of the Chairman making comments such as this.
