Sheffield Wednesday picked up a hard-earned point against Swansea City on Wednesday evening, as they look to edge closer to safety in the Championship.

The Owls took the lead on the night through Adam Reach, but were forced to settle for a point after Andre Ayew equalised for Steve Cooper's side.

Wednesday certainly showed improvement since their defeat to Preston North End at the weekend, and will surely be feeling the effects of back-to-back away matches in Lancashire, and then Swansea.

But they're back on home soil in their next match, which will be pleasing to see for manager Tony Pulis, with the newly-appointed boss not managing his side at Hillsborough since taking charge of the club on November 13th.

Speaking in a post-match press conference (quotes sourced from Yorkshire Live) after their draw with Swansea City, Pulis was left frustrated over the hectic schedule, with his side having back-to-back away matches in a short space of time.

"I don’t know why we are not having home and away. Why could we not have played Stoke tonight at our place and travelled to Swansea on Saturday?

"Why have we got to do Preston and Swansea? I’m not saying it just for us. I am saying it for other clubs; why are they making you travel on a Saturday and then midweek to far off places when you can spin it so it is home and away?"

Pulis and his Sheffield Wednesday side are next in action this weekend, when they host play-off chasing Stoke City at Hillsborough, in what is likely to be a tough test for the Owls.

The Verdict:

You can understand his point here.

His players will surely be tired after the tough match against Preston North End at the weekend, but they did extremely well to come away with a point against a Swansea side that I expect to be challenging for promotion this season.

They're back on home soil this weekend, but it certainly won't be an easy test by any stretch of the imagination, as they take on a Stoke side that have shown much-needed improvement this term.

The fixtures schedule will only become more congested as we head towards the hectic, and potentially season-defining festive period.
