Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager Steve Agnew has delivered a mixed injury update on striker Gary Hooper and midfielder Kieran Lee, reports Dom Howson of the Sheffield Star.

He revealed that Hooper has started running again and could feature in the first team in three to four weeks, but that Kieran Lee had suffered another setback which he would not put a time frame on.

Both players have been missing since December 2017 having each suffered serious injuries leaving Steve Bruce with a decision to make as to whether to replace them in the transfer window or not.

Wednesday currently sit in 16th place with 27 matches played, nine points ahead of Reading who top the relegation zone but also just 11 behind Derby County.

This weekend sees them welcome fellow strugglers Wigan Athletic off the back of a 3-0 loss to Hull City at the KCom last weekend.

The verdict

It is almost hard to get excited even about the good news regarding Hooper. It feels inevitable that he too will suffer another setback too.

As for Lee, it feels more and more like this is a battle the club and player just are not going to win.

It feels horrible to say, leaving a player in such a tricky situation, but it simply is not worth the club's time or money keeping him.
