Darren Moore has brushed off speculation over Josh Windass's future, saying 'he'll be a big player for us this season'.

The Sheffield Wednesday star has been heavily linked with a move away from Hillsborough after an impressive campaign last term in which he scored nine goals and racked up six assists.

With the Owls suffering relegation, a number of clubs including QPR, Millwall and Birmingham City have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but according to Moore, the Yorkshire side very much see the versatile forward as part of their plans for the season ahead.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Moore said: “We know the player that Josh is and the attacking prowess he has.

“The beautiful thing with Josh is the number of attacking positions we can use him in, and he’s equally comfortable in those positions. That’s what we’ve got with Josh and he’ll be a big player for us this season.
“He can play anywhere across the front.”

Moore added: "You can even use him as a number eight in midfield if you wanted to get an extra attacker on.

“Because of that versatility in attacking areas and that fact he’s equally strong in each of those positions, he’ll be a good player for us.”

The verdict Keeping hold of Josh Windass has to be a priority this summer. Sheffield Wednesday are facing a huge challenge as they look to secure promotion next season and if they're going to do that then they'll need to have players who can perform on a consistent basis. While interest from the Championship is unlikely to go away the Owls must do all that they can to keep the player for the season ahead. Whether they'll manage to do so with the transfer window only in its early stages, however, remains to be seen.
