Billy Sharp has indicated he believes Chris Wilder will remain loyal to Sheffield United, despite his reputation continuing to rise following a strong start to management in the Sky Bet Championship, reports Sky Sports.

Wilder arrived at Bramall Lane ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, having led Northampton Town to promotion in League Two the previous year. Wilder secured personal back-to-back promotions last season, helping Sheffield United end their long wait for a Championship return.

Under Wilder’s guide, Sheffield United continue to excel, with the Blades making an extremely strong start to life back in the Championship. Wilder’s side currently sit third in the table heading into late October, and the 50-year-old is beginning to attract attention from the Premier League.

However, Sharp, Sheffield United’s captain and talisman, believes that Wilder will want to be the man to take the Blades back to the Premier League, hinting that he believes he knows what the manager’s decision would be if he was faced with an opportunity to leave Bramall Lane. Sharp said: “Obviously I don’t want him to (leave).

"It's a nice problem for the gaffer to have, he's done really well all his career and he's worked his way up. It would be nice for him to manage in the Premier League but it would be even better for him to do it with Sheffield United.

"It's his decision at the end of the day, but I think I know what he'll do."

Sheffield United return to action this evening in the Championship, where they have the opportunity to move to the top of the table ahead of tomorrow’s round of fixtures. Victory over fourth placed, Leeds United, will see the Blades top the table, and move seven points clear of their Yorkshire rivals.

The Verdict

Wilder has done a fantastic job at Bramall Lane, and it is easy to understand why Premier League clubs might be taking a look at the Sheffield United boss.

However, Wilder appears to be completed committed to helping the Blades continue their rise through the Football League, and it is hard to see him turning his back on the club.

The possibility of Sheffield United moving top of the table tonight highlights the size of the job Wilder has done.
