Swansea City opted not to sell Morgan Whittaker to Rangers this month as they plan to use him in the Championship during the remainder of the campaign, according to The Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell.

It is understood that a move for Whittaker to Ibrox this month is no longer on the cards.

Rangers were heavily linked with a move for the winger following Swansea's decision to recall him from his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle.

As per Wales Online, Swansea rejected a £2m bid from the Scottish outfit for Whittaker last week.

Whittaker was not utilised by the Swans in their 3-1 victory over Sunderland earlier this month due to the speculation surrounding his future and asked head coach Russell Martin to leave him out of the squad for the club's clash with Queens Park Rangers.

With the winger now set to stay, he could make his first appearance of the campaign for the Swans when they host Birmingham City in the Championship this weekend.

Currently 12th in the league standings, Swansea will be looking to close the gap between them and the play-off places by securing victories in their upcoming fixtures.

The Verdict

Given that Swansea will now be looking to turn to Whittaker for inspiration following a prolonged transfer saga, it will be interesting to see whether the winger will be able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis.

The 22-year-old was arguably playing the best football of his career during his temporary stint at Plymouth.

As well as scoring nine goals for Argyle, Whittaker also provided seven assists as he recorded an impressive average WhoScored match rating of 7.02 in League One.

By replicating these attacking displays in a Swansea shirt, there is every chance that the winger will finally be able to establish himself as a key player for the club.

With the Swans aiming to secure a place in the play-offs later this year, they will need the likes of Whittaker, Joel Piroe and Oliver Cooper to step up to the mark in an attacking sense in order to achieve this goal.
