Reading boss Jose Gomes has confirmed that the club have finally had their soft transfer embargo lifted and acknowledged that a lot of new additions are needed.

The Royals issues have been well-documented and they have only brought in two players so far, which came after two players left because of the embargo they were operating under.

However, The Tilehurst End revealed that Gomes had told BBC Berkshire that had been lifted, whilst he was also keen to stress just how much work needs doing to his squad.

"Well I just know that - it’s fresh news - that yesterday evening they told me that we are not under an embargo anymore. We cannot hide that we need new faces. Not only because we really need [them], but because we need to say to our players that our aim is something bigger. We are waiting for these new faces. Hopefully during this week a lot of things will happen."

As well as that, the Portuguese boss admitted that the Championship outfit had missed out on targets because of their situation.

"Some couldn’t wait anymore and they already are in the other clubs. But we have millions of players in the world and just for sure we will find the right players."

The Verdict

This is a relief for Reading, although the manager still doesn't seem clear on the budget he will have or how easily they will be able to bring players in.

But, they won't have the massive handicap that was the embargo hanging over them now and should be able to move quickly.

Gomes' comments are very honest and he recognises a lot of new additions are needed before the Championship begins and it's good that he isn't pretending things are okay.

So, it's now down to him and the recruitment team to find players who will come in to help the squad moving forward and he seems ready for that challenge.
