It's been a disappointing start to the season for Reading, who have failed to match the results that took them to the play-off final last season.

The Royals are 20th in the table and without a win in five, with a daunting trip to Elland Road up next.

In fact, October looks a very tough month, with games against Sheffield United and Middlesbrough to follow Saturday's fixture.

However, despite their poor start, keeper Vito Mannone remains confident that the side will be competing at the right end of the table by the end of the season.

“There's only one achievement I want, which is promotion. That's why I came here. For me, nothing has gone yet, but we need to stay together, work together as hard as possible,” he told the official site.

The former Sunderland man also revealed how easy it has been to settle in to life at his new club.

I'm very settled now, I know the place, I know the guys, I know what the coaching staff want from me. I'm really enjoying my time, I think I'm in the right place and in a very, very good club with lots of ambitions.”

The Verdict

Reading fans will be pleased to see that Mannone still has confidence in the team and that they won't give up.

It's also far too early in the season to say teams can't make the top six, although Reading can't let this run go on for much longer.

After last seasons heroics, expectations were high for Jaap Stam's men, but they still have time to deliver.
