Queens Park Rangers' Director of Football, Les Ferdinand, has dismissed reports which suggest that Tim Sherwood has pulled out of the race to succeed Steve McClaren at Loftus Road.

The former Aston Villa boss has a close relationship with the key R's figure from their playing days at Tottenham, so he was immediately installed as the favourite for the job.

However, the Evening Standard claimed earlier today that Sherwood doesn't want the job, leaving it as a three-way tussle between Carlos Carvalhal, Nigel Pearson and Mark Warburton.

But, Ferdinand told Sky Sports that he is still under consideration for the job, along with several other candidates.

"Tim is one of those we wanted to speak to, we have spoken to him and there's no talk of pulling himself out of it at the moment. We're still going through a process and hopefully by the end of that process we'll make the right long-term decision for QPR."

He also gave an update on when a decision will be made and suggested they could wait until the season has finished.

"John Eustace, Matt Gardiner and Chris Ramsey have done a good job, getting us into a position where we are safe this season, so we can probably extend the process a little bit longer."

The Verdict

Many have expected Sherwood to get the job but it's clear that QPR are going through a long process and they're right not to rush things.

Whether he is the right man for the role is debatable and there are several top managers who are interested and you can understand why.

It will be interesting to see who they do appoint and from Ferdinand's comments Sherwood is still in the frame.
