Portsmouth Chief Executive Officer Andy Cullen has revealed that he is confident that the club will be making some additions to their squad in the next week.

Pompey have made a relatively quiet start to the current transfer window in terms of incomings.

Marlon Pack became the club's first signing of the summer last week as he sealed a move to Fratton Park.

The midfielder is set to remain at Portsmouth until 2024 after putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.

With the 2022/23 campaign set to get underway in July, Pompey will need to step up their pursuits of potential targets in order to give new players the chance to adapt to life at the club.

Having finished 10th in the League One standings last season, Portsmouth will be determined to push forward as a club under the guidance of head coach Danny Cowley later this year.

The scale of Pompey's success in the new term is likely to depend upon whether they are able to nail their recruitment between now and the end of the window.

Making reference to Portsmouth's transfer plans, Cullen has admitted that he expects the club to secure the services of some players in the next week.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent (as cited by journalist Andrew Moon), Cullen said: "There's a lot going on and I'd be very confident that in the next week we'll see some new additions coming into the building."

The Verdict

This is a relatively encouraging update as Portsmouth are seemingly making progress in their pursuit of targets.

One of the areas that Pompey will have to bolster is the striker position as they are incredibly short of options in this particular position.

As well as sanctioning moves for John Marquis and Ellis Harrison earlier this year, Portsmouth waved goodbye to George Hirst in May as he returned to Leicester City following the expiry of his loan spell.

Providing that Pompey are able to sign some individuals who have thrived at this level in recent seasons, there is no reason why they cannot go on to make a positive start to the new campaign.
