Portsmouth chief executive Mark Catlin has hinted that the club is still keen on bringing Ben Thompson back to the South Coast in future transfer windows.

The Millwall midfielder spent the season on loan at Pompey back in the 2018-19 campaign, and became a fans favourite as he impressed supporters at Fratton Park with his talent.

Thompson has stayed at Millwall since, although the midfielder hasn't quite played as many games as he'd have hoped, making just four appearances so far this season.

Catlin has suggested that Thompson is a player that the club continues to monitor and has admitted that he thinks the 25-year-old is a great player.

Speaking in his October Q&A, Catlin said: "I can't comment on players at other clubs other than to say we know Ben, we know he's a great player. I stay in regular contact with him and we want the best players at the club so make your mind up there. Put two and two together, exactly that."

Portsmouth will be looking to get back to winning ways in League One in midweek, when they take on promotion rivals Lincoln City, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Kenny Jackett's side.

The Verdict

Thompson is a player that always seems to get linked to Portsmouth, ever since his successful loan spell at the club a couple of years ago.

It would be a signing that in League One would certainly be a standout and if Pompey are challenging for promotion, Thompson is the type of player that could the club that much needed edge.

It will now be interesting to see what happens in the January transfer window and whether Portsmouth go back in for the midfielder that would certainly put smiles on supporters faces.
