Portsmouth Chief Executive Officer Andrew Cullen has revealed that the club are still trying to negotiate fresh terms with Michael Jacobs, Aiden O'Brien and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild.

Jacobs and O'Brien are both currently on course to become free-agents in June whilst Pompey do have the option to extend Hackett-Fairchild's contract for another 12 months.

However, instead of triggering this clause, it is understood that Portsmouth are attempting to get the 24-year-old to commit his long-term future to the club.

Whereas a recent report from Football Insider suggested that Pompey had reached an agreement with Hackett-Fairchild over a new deal, this has yet to be confirmed by the League One outfit.

As for Jacobs, he was offered an incentive-based deal earlier this month which includes as a basic salary.

Portsmouth meanwhile are also keen to keep O'Brien at the club past the summer as the 28-year-old managed to produce some encouraging performances for the club in the second-half of the campaign.

Ahead of the start of the summer transfer window, Cullen has shared an update on this aforementioned trio.

Speaking to The News, Cullen said: "We are still in talks with everybody, we have the dialogue going in every single individual case.

"The players know what the terms are, as out-of-contract players it's entirely within their rights to determine what is right for them.

"We would love to see each of them in a Pompey shirt next season - and that's something which hasn't changed from the minute we put the original deal to them.

"That constant dialogue is still going on and, because they are out-of-contract players, they have a prerogative to take their time to consider what it's going to be like for them at the next stage of their careers."

The Verdict

It will be fascinating to see whether Portsmouth are able to convince this trio to stay as they all managed to show signs of promise in League One during the previous term.

Before having his season curtailed by injury, Hackett-Fairchild demonstrated his versatility by featuring in a number of different positions for Pompey.

Jacobs meanwhile provided 11 direct goal contributions in 24 league appearances whilst O'Brien scored five goals at this level in a Portsmouth shirt.

Providing that Pompey are able to call upon the services of these three players next season, there is no reason why they cannot help the club achieve a relative amount of success in the third-tier.
