Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has revealed that the side's resilience and character played a main part in the Pilgrims' win over Stevenage at the weekend, reports PlymouthLive.

The hosts took the lead at Home Park through a Tyler Denton own goal, as a cross from Byron Moore struck the defender's leg and looped into the net inside the first half.

In the second period, Plymouth struggled to keep up their momentum from the first half and they allowed Stevenage back into the game, midfielder Elliott List netting an equaliser.

Centre-back Niall Canavan popped up in the final minute to score the winner and move the Pilgrims into the playoff places with a finish from a few yards out after substitute Conor Grant had got the ball into the box.

Plymouth manager Lowe said: "First half, I thought we should have been out of sight. That has been the case for probably a large part of the season.

"We knew Stevenage were going to be tough to break down, their three strikers getting in our three defenders’ faces. They were solid and resolute, as Graham Westley’s teams are.

"I’m just pleased with the character and the resilience of the boys to find that winner."

Since being relegated from League One last season, the Devon side have had to readjust following Lowe's appointment in the summer, and after finding their feet in the division, they are proving to be a force to be reckoned with following three straight league wins.

The Verdict

Resilience was a part of Lowe's Bury side that saw them get promoted from League Two last season, and he will be drumming it into his players that they need to keep going during the entire game if they want to go straight back up.

The Plymouth boss will be demanding that his side continues to give him and the supporters everything across the second half of the season as the pack at the top of the table aim to pull away from the sides beneath them.
