Swansea City goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has praised the character of the Welsh side after they came away with a dramatic point at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The goalkeeper has been in fine form since moving on loan for the season from Newcastle, and is quickly becoming a fan favourite due to the way he celebrated after Swansea defeated Cardiff in the South-Wales derby.

Steve Cooper's side earned a point right at the death on Saturday. The Swans had gone behind in the 91st minute of the game at Sheffield Wednesday, and with most thinking it would condemn them to a defeat, the Welsh side hit back and equalised two minutes later earning an unlikely point.

Woodman has insisted that the equaliser has shown the character that the side have, and that it is credit to the whole squad.

Speaking to Swansea's official website, Woodman said: “In this game, you can never lose faith. There are a lot of last-minute goals in this league which just shows that you must keep going all the way to the end.

“For us to get those sort of goals at the death, says everything about the character of the team.

“You could see how much it meant to the fans and also to us. We didn’t give up – which a lot of teams would have done – and we kept going and that’s a credit to all the lads."

The Verdict

Swansea have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far, and many have been really impressed with the way that they have gone about their work in the campaign.

It'll be interesting to see if they can keep it up, but the signs are showing that they'll be able to especially after not letting their foot off the gas under manager Cooper.

The character that Woodman alludes to is something that every side in the Championship often craves for, and Swansea have that.
