Darragh MacAnthony has indirectly lashed out at former Peterborough boss Steve Evans on Twitter this week following the departure of Isaac Buckley-Ricketts from London Road.

The former Manchester City winger has had his contract terminated by mutual consent after his move to Posh didn't work out. He was brought in by former manager Steve Evans, who said at the time; "he is here for the long-term, there is no immediate pressure on him and we hope to develop him."

The 21-year-old came through the ranks with Manchester City and enjoyed loan spells with FC Twente and Oxford United before his move to Peterborough. Having represented England up to Under 20 level he looked to be a special talent, but he never got a chance to perform.

He played twice for Posh, both times in the EFL Trophy, but was transfer-listed at the end of last season. Having seen his contract terminated by mutual consent, Darragh MacAnthony was asked how Buckley-Ricketts rated in terms of his worst ever bit of business.

"Win some lose some. I backed a manager, it didn’t work out," he said, before adding an expletive.

MacAnthony has backed a manager once again this summer, seeing the club's record transfer fee smashed by capturing Mo Eisa from Bristol City. They're currently just outside the top six after a fine 3-0 win against Sunderland at the weekend.

The Verdict

MacAnthony is always honest and forthright, but I suspect lashing out directly at the player would be unfair. He was told no pressure when he first signed and yet here we are, one year later, and he's gone. No time to develop, no scope to remain long term.

That's what happens in football, managers change, players fall in and out of favour and the chairman can not be blamed.

Had he shelled out half a million on the lad then maybe it could be seen as bad business, but bringing in a free transfer and seeing him leave without playing isn't quite as bad as it gets.

I suspect paying a big sum of wages for Ricky Miller is likely to be much higher on the list.
