Barry Fry has confirmed that Peterborough United have received £2m bids for in-form duo, Marcus Maddison and Jack Marriott, but has described the impressive attackers as irreplaceable, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Leeds United were linked with Maddison and Marriott yesterday, with reports suggesting that the Whites had sent a scout to watch the Sky Bet League One clash between Bradford City and Peterborough, where the duo once again impressed.

Maddison has nine goals and a mammoth 23 assists to his name this season, whilst Marriott has bagged 21 goals across all competitions, with the duo key to Peterborough’s chance of promotion from League One this season.

Fry, Posh’s Director of Football, has been discussing the duo, confirming that bids had been made by an unnamed Championship club, he said: “We’ve had £2m bids from Championship clubs, but that isn’t enough for us to even start talking, We don’t want to lose either of them.

“Maddison has nine goals and 23 assists this season which pretty much makes him irreplaceable.”

The duo helped Peterborough to a 3-1 victory over Bradford on Boxing Day, as Posh strengthened their grip on a place in the League One top-six.

Marriott scored a brace and also added an assist, whilst Maddison added to his incredible assist record with two.

Posh currently sit sixth in the League One table.

The Verdict

Peterborough are desperate to keep Maddison and Marriott heading into January, and with the form that the duo are in so far this season, it is no surprise.

Fry’s comments indicate that Peterborough aren’t willing to lose either attacker, but reported interest from some big clubs mean that some bigger bids could come in the New Year.

A larger offer could well be on the way if Maddison and Marriott continue their current form.
