Oldham Athletic head coach Dino Maamria took part in a Q&A session with the club's fans on Tuesday evening, offering some interesting insights into the club.

The Tunisian took over at Boundary Park from Laurent Banide, in September and has seen the Latics linger around the bottom half of the League Two table for the majority of his reign.

Oldham are now six games unbeaten in the league, and victories in their last two games have eased any relegation fears some may have had.

On Tuesday, the 48-year-old addressed several topics for the fans, including his vision, the side's form, and recruitment.

Discussing the recruitment aspect, Maamria told the club's fans, as transcribed by the club's media channels that: "He is in charge of this now. Mistakes have been made in the past.

"January is a key indicator of what to expect for the future in the types of players he wants to attract, he wants a happy squad and as such has to keep numbers small and not have 30+ players."

Oldham brought in a total of nine players in the January transfer window, including the loan signing of Manchester United left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Touching on his squad, Maamria revealed: "The dressing room has been fantastic, all the players are mixing even before the recent upturn in results, (David) Wheater and (Chris) McCann lead by example in nurturing this atmosphere."

Maamria's side face tricky trips to Crewe and then Exeter City on Saturday and Tuesday respectively, with both of their next two opponents chasing automatic promotion.

The Verdict

It appears after this Q&A that there appears to be clarity in the way the club is being run, after a few years of mismanagement and negativity.

The Latics were relegated by a point from League One in 2018 and finished 14th last term in League Two, the same position they currently occupy.

This season looks like it will end in a mid-table finish for the Latics, being 14 points above the relegation and 12 points off the play-offs, but the Q&A does offer some indication there is not some stability at the club and they can start to look forward.
