Chris Hughton has played down speculation regarding Brennan Johnson’s future at Nottingham Forest.
Reports from The Independent have claimed that Brentford are among a number of Premier League clubs who are interested in making a move for the 20-year-old starlet, while Championship side Barnsley are also said to be keen on the player.
Football Insider have reported that Forest have rejected numerous offers for the attacking midfielder, suggesting that the player is still very much a part of the club’s plans going into the new season.
Of course there’s a long way to go in the summer transfer window, meaning that there will be a number of twists and turns along the way.
Forest took on Northampton Town in a friendly on Tuesday night but with Johnson missing out it sparked fresh questions among supporters about what the future actually holds for the youngster, something that Hughton insists isn’t a worry.
Asked by Nottinghamshire Live if fans should be concerned about Johnson’s absence, Hughton said: “Tell them, nothing to worry about.
“In these games, we will make decisions on who we rest and who we play.
“He will certainly be involved at the weekend.”
Did each of these 20 players ever score a goal whilst on loan at Nottingham Forest?
This will certainly be music to the ears of Nottingham Forest fans.
Brennan Johnson is arguably one of the hottest prospects in the Championship going into this season and so it’s going to be a pivotal 12 months in the youngster’s career.
While a move to another club could be tempting for various reasons it seems that the City Ground could be the best place for his development with a spot in the first team likely to be his to lose in the upcoming campaign.
If he can thrive this term then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Johnson linked with some much bigger clubs this time next year.
