Marley Watkins will miss Norwich City’s trip to Sunderland this evening due to illness, with Daniel Farke facing a number of problems heading to the North East.

Farke was unable to call on Watkins in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, with the midfielder set to miss out again tonight due to illness, as Norwich prepare to travel to the Stadium of Light without the 27-year-old.

Watkins will not be the only absentee this evening, with Farke confirming to Norwich’s official website that Tom Trybull, Marco Stiepermann and Onel Hernandez are all sidelined.

There is also concern for Alex Tetty, whilst Farke has also confirmed that late decisions will have to be made on Harrison Reed, Ivo Pinto and Mario Vrancic.

However, despite a few disappointing updates, Farke could confirm that Moritz Leitner would be featuring for 30 minutes, although he was not fit enough to make the starting XI.

Norwich are looking to build on Saturday’ impressive victory over Aston Villa when they travel to Sunderland this evening.

Goals from Josh Murphy, Dennis Srbeny and James Maddison helped Norwich to a big win over Villa, moving the Canaries back into the top-half of the Championship table ahead of the final five fixtures of the season.

The Verdict

Farke’s injury update is a really frustrating one for Norwich, who could be without some keys players this evening in Sunderland.

Saturday’s result was so impressive, with Villa absolutely flying in the Championship this season, but building on that will be difficult if injuries work against the Canaries.

Farke will want a positive end to the season, regardless of Norwich’s campaign drifting towards a mid-table finish.
