Norwich City's sporting director Stuart Webber has made an interesting admission regarding the sale of last season's star man James Maddison, reports journalist Michael Bailey.

The attacking midfielder suffered a nasty injury on the final day of the previous campaign and Webber admitted that had it been more serious, and Norwich were unable to cash in on him, it could have been a "disaster".

Maddison scored 14 goals and registered eight assists to earn a move to Leicester City in the summer, a move that earned the Canaries just under £23million.

That money was put towards bringing in the likes of Emi Buendia and Moritz Leitner, two players who have had a significant impact on the current campaign.

Norwich confirmed their promotion back to the top-flight last weekend with a 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road.

The second-tier title is not yet wrapped up, however, but it will be if they avoid defeat away to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The verdict

It is really remarkable how good a season the club have had off the back of selling a player of Maddison's influence.

Considering Josh Murphy was also sold, it is a serious testament to the work that Daniel Farke, his team and the likes of Webber have done.
