Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is hoping his club do all they can to tempt Hully City star Jarrod Bowen away from the KCOM Stadium.

Bowen has been in scintillating form for the Tigers of late, which has led to a host of Premier League clubs being very interested in securing his services. The Express are reporting that Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit, as Southampton are also keen on the winger.

The forward has been a standout player for Grant McCann’s side as they push towards the play-offs this season, as he has been involved in 11 goals for the Tigers, with nine goals and two assists to his name already.

In his Championship career, the 22-year-old has made 104 appearances and scored a staggering 45 goals on top of registering seven assists. Bowen is clearly a key part of Grant McCann’s plans at Hull, as the club recently sat the forward down for fresh contract talks.

The contract talks are clearly in place to ward off any potential interest in the player, but this hasn’t stopped former Tigers boss Steve Bruce from advising his club to do whatever it takes to seal his move to Tyneside, according to the Northern Echo.

There were also reports that Bruce was keen in the summer to see Bowen arrive at St. James’ Park, but their attention turned to securing deals for Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Verdict

Bowen is clearly admired by Steve Bruce, as their paths crossed while the manager was at Hull when they were in the Premier League. It could be a solid signing for the Magpies and makes sense as to why they would look to Bowen, with it not presenting as much of a huge fee as some other targets.

However, at Hull, Bowen must continue the strong form he is showing for the Tigers which has warranted this interest. It is yet to be seen whether Bowen will sign the new contract which could force Newcastle into tabling a bid in January and forcing the Hull’s hand in the matter.
