As quoted by the club's official website, Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has laid down the gauntlet to his players ahead of two key games for the club.

Boro have had a steady start this season with them just inside the play-offs and the men from the Riverside now have two home games to try and build on that - starting with Norwich tonight.

Indeed, if they can win that game and then beat Brentford at the weekend they will be looking in a strong position and that is the challenge Monk is putting to his players right now.

The former Leeds and Swansea manager said:

"We’ve got two games before the break, we are on a run and we want to win every game.

"They are both difficult games, but the Norwich game is the most important because it’s the next one.

"We have confidence and the players are showing a good understanding in what they need to do and what they’re fighting for."

For sure, then, he's looking for the club to keep their unbeaten run going which currently stands at seven games.

Norwich, though, will represent a tough test tonight with them going well in recent games, too, and so a big three points would surely boost confidence as well as their standing in the league.

The Verdict

The next international break is not long away and it seems as though Monk is determined to get his side going into it in as high a position as possible.

The men from the Riverside are not too far away from where they want to be at the top of the league and with two home games up next, now is the time to get their foot down.

They need to perform, though, in two tough looking games.
