Chuba Akpom will be allowed to leave Middlesbrough providing the right offer comes in, according to manager Neil Warnock.

The former Arsenal starlet arrived at the Riverside Stadium last term after leaving Greek side PAOK but struggled to really find his feet in a frustrating campaign for the striker.

As a result the 25-year-old was limited to just five goals in 38 appearances for the club.

Since then reports from Teamtalk have suggested that Warnock would be open to allowing the striker to move on this summer as the two parties look for a mutually beneficial solution to his frustration, something that has now been confirmed by the manager himself.

Speaking to Teesside Live, Warnock said: "At the moment we’ve only got him and Uche.

"I think everybody knows if the right offer comes in we’d consider that but at the same time we are still looking at other forwards.

"I know Crooksy can go up there but we need another couple of strikers there. If Duncan gets injured were short."

The verdict

It certainly looks increasingly likely that Chuba Akpom could be moving on.

His first 12 months with Middlesbrough wasn't exactly brilliant but there's an argument to suggest that the team perhaps wasn't set up to play to his undoubted strengths.

Creativity was a real problem last term which meant that chances simply weren't being created, something that's a pretty fundamental issue for a player like Akpom.

Perhaps a move away will be the best solution for all parties, but with the Teessiders adding various attack-minded players to the group already this summer I'd find it very interesting to see how Akpom would fare in a new-look Middlesbrough attack.
