Neil Warnock has revealed that Middlesbrough are looking to sign 'two or three' new players in January.

The Teessiders have enjoyed an excellent start to the new season and find themselves in the play-off spots as we enter the festive period.

That means that the transfer window is just around the corner and Warnock will be keen to strengthen.

Middlesbrough have lacked quantity in their squad so far this term and that's something that the boss will be keen to address in the coming weeks.

As quoted by Teesside Live, Warnock said: “I always said, with the squad we’ve got, if we could be three or four points off the play-offs by January I’d be pleased.

“We’re going to try and bring two or three in to help us, but to be honest, they’d struggle to get into the team at the minute!

“I think at the minute we will struggle to stay in that top six because we’re so short of players.

“If we lost a centre-half or another midfield player we’d be struggling.

“We’d need a lot of luck. If we didn’t have any injuries I’d fancy us, mind. It’s such a wide-open league.

“The three teams that have got all the money are up there and should be up there. But we’ve played all three and should or could have won them all.

“I don’t think there’s that much in the league, we’ve just got to make sure we’re right.

“We’re trying to bring players in, but they’ve got to be better than what we’ve got, which financially is difficult.

“I’m here to help Steve (Gibson) and you can’t expect him to just keep putting more money in when there’s no fans coming in. We are lucky to have him.”

The Verdict

This will be music to the ears of Middlesbrough fans.

While the club have done well this term they definitely need to add some numbers to the group if they're to last the pace.

Two or three signings would do just that, but as Warnock mentioned it'll be interesting to see how they fit into his tight-knit group.
