Neil Warnock has all-but ruled out making a move for Famara Diedhiou this month.

The Middlesbrough manager is looking for ways to strengthen his squad as he looks to build on the club's excellent start to the new season that has seen them establish themselves as genuine play-off contenders.

Reports from Bristol Live earlier this week claimed that the Teessiders were one of the sides interested in making a move for the Bristol City frontman who faces an uncertain future with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

But despite scoring 14 goals for the Robins last term, Warnock says that he's expecting anything to happen.

As quoted by the Hartlepool Mail, Warnock said: “I’ve not been very lucky with signings from Bristol City so I might probably say no, I might give that a miss.”

He added: "There’s nothing much happening at the moment. I spoke to a couple of people yesterday, agents etc.

“If I’m honest, what will be will be. I can’t see a lot of wheeling and dealing right now.
“If I could just get the one in, I’d be more than happy to go with what I’ve got.”

The Verdict This won't be too much of a surprise for Middlesbrough fans. With Ashley Fletcher, Britt Assombalonga and Chuba Akpom all vying for one spot in attack it seemed unlikely that the addition of a new striker would be seen as a priority this month. There's nothing to suggest that they won't look to sign one in the summer with Fletcher and Assombalonga out of contract, but for now the focus must surely be on signing more creative midfielders.
