Neil Warnock has confirmed that Kieran Scott will be joining Middlesbrough as sporting director.

Reports from Football Insider claimed earlier this week that Norwich City's head of recruitment was set to move to the Riverside Stadium as part of a restructure of the club's hierarchy.

Scott has been an instrumental part of the Canaries' recent success in the transfer market with the likes of Emi Buendia, Teemu Pukki among the major success stories that the club have enjoyed in the transfer market.

Middlesbrough are looking to revamp their recruitment model, and while the club haven't formally confirmed the appointment of Scott, Warnock all-but confirmed it himself during an appearance on TalkSPORT.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, as quoted by Teesside Live, Warnock said: “They’ve brought a new sporting director (Kieran Scott) in who is starting shortly so I would imagine things will change in the next 12 months.

“I’m not going to be working ten years so they have to look forward to the future so that doesn’t bother me.

“They have to think what’s right for the club and then look forward to how they are going to sustain it.

“Everyone is looking for something different and they’ve decided to go down that way.

“We’ll have to see what happens and he’s a good bloke apparently from what I’ve heard. He’s coming in from Norwich City and he has a good idea about the long-term planning.”

The verdict

This is really exciting news for Middlesbrough supporters.

The Teessiders have struggled with their recruitment over recent years and it seems that the appointment of a sporting director could be just what they need to add a little bit more structure to that side of the club's operation.

In Kieran Scott they have someone who has a proven track record in recruiting well at Championship level.

Norwich City have been a model example of how to conduct recruitment in the EFL and so it's going to be very exciting for fans to see how this impacts the club's business in the coming years.
