Kenny Jackett looks to be on the cusp of leading Pompey back to the Championship after their exile in the lower reaches of the Football League.

They went from being FA Cup winners to a mid-table League Two side in double quick time, serving as a dire warning to others clubs as to the dangers of overspending.

If there's a warning there, there's also an example of what to do afterwards, of how to galvanise a club and progress back up the divisions. Surely, there was no doubt they would be back at some point? That being the case, it was a case of how long and who would get them back there.

One season in League One was all it took to adjust and if the start of this campaign is anything to go by, they'll soon be back at a level they're suited to.

That won't stop Kenny Jackett worrying though, here are three reasons he might have to be concerned...

He won't want to lose Curtis, his big summer signing from Derry, but if the attacker keeps performing as he is doing now, January could be tough.

He's been a revelation and his form has allowed Jackett to drop Brett Pitman, a player he relied on heavily last season.

Hanging on to Curtis is paramount and I imagine Jackett will be taking his phone off him on New Year's Eve.

If he takes Curtis' phone off him, then he'd best do the same with Matt Clarke.

The centre-half is forming a reputation as the finest defender outside the top two divisions and rightly so.

There's bound to be a queue forming in January and Jackett's ultimate success depends entirely on keeping his key players.

Can Portsmouth carry the weight of expectation forward through the season?

Their fans expect a Championship return and leading by three points at this stage sets them up as favourites for promotion.

Is that something they have the character to deal with? Last season their playoff ambitions faded under the expectation, have they learned as a squad to deal with that this time around?
