John Terry could hand Aston Villa a huge boost ahead of the New Year, with Steve Bruce confirming to the clubâs official Twitter account (@AVFCOfficial) that the defender could return over the next two weeks.
Bruce has been without Terry for Villaâs last five Sky Bet Championship fixtures, after the 37-year-old defender suffered a broken metatarsal in Novemberâs 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
That injury threatened to rule Terry out until 2018, but the veteran defender is making excellent progress on his road to recovery, with Bruce confirming that he is exactly where Villa expected him to be, with the club update confirming he could return just ahead of the New Year.
Terry arrived at Villa Park on a free during the summer transfer window, and made 16 Championship appearances prior to his injury, helping Bruceâs side into top-six contention.
Villa currently sit fifth in the table heading into the festive period, having lost just twice since mid-August.
Bruceâs side face four tricky fixtures in the coming weeks, first of all travelling to Derby County tomorrow, before facing a gruelling three-match schedule in just seven days over Christmas.
Sheffield United, Brentford and Middlesbrough all await Villa.
The Verdict
This is huge of Aston Villa heading into the New Year, with Terry absolutely vital to the clubâs promotion hopes.
The veteran defender has helped transform the mood around Villa Park, and he will undoubtedly boost everyone associated with the club heading into 2018.
Villa have so far managed in Terryâs absence, which is a credit to the rest of Villaâs squad.
