Key man considering his Aston Villa future, Leeds United linked

Steve Bruce could be ready to quit Aston Villa this summer even if Dr Tony Xia decides he wants to keep the 57-year-old on at Villa Park.

After failure to win promotion back to the Premier League, Bruce’s role at Villa Park is under consideration, with Villa in financial turmoil and facing the prospect of making huge cuts ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

Xia is considering Bruce’s role at Villa Park, but according to a report in the Express, Bruce could quit the club even if Xia decides he wants to 57-year-old to stick around next season.

Bruce has been with Villa since October 2016, when he was brought in to replace Roberto Di Matteo at Villa Park.

By the end of the 2016/17 campaign Bruce had led Villa to a mid-table finish, but last season launched a promotion push, with Villa finishing fourth.

Bruce’s side went on to lose the play-off final 1-0 to Fulham, leaving the club in crisis, with Bruce’s squad set to be picked apart in the coming weeks and months.

Amid uncertainty surrounding his future, Bruce was linked with the Leeds United job recently, as the Whites search for Paul Heckingbottom’s permanent replacement after the ex-Barnsley boss departed Elland Road earlier in the month.

The Verdict

These are really testing times for Villa, who have a number of big decisions to make this summer.

Uncertainty around Bruce’s future might be slightly unfair, particularly when you consider the position he had Villa in last season.

However, the 57-year-old is under pressure from sections of the club’s supporters and it would be very little surprise to see him say that enough is enough.

You doubt whether a move to Leeds would materialise, but there seems to be interest from West Yorkshire. Should Bruce leave, he would expect the offer of another job before long.

Will Bruce still be around next season? Let us know your thoughts!
