Martin Cranie has stated that Luton were not good enough in their defeat against Reading on Saturday.

The defeat meant that the Hatters were defeated for the fourth game in succession and have quickly dropped down the Championship table as they now sit in 21st place, just one spot above the drop.

It's set to be a tough campaign for Graeme Jones' side as they fight to stay in the division having won League One last season.

The current international break is a big one for the Hatters as they look to iron out the defensive issues that the side has faced over the past couple of weeks.

Cranie has expressed that everyone is disappointed, and that the goals Luton are conceding are completely avoidable.

Speaking to Dunstable Today, Cranie said: “Everyone’s very disappointed. We were very soft first half, first 15 we maybe played all right, but the next half hour wasn’t good enough by anyone’s standards.

“We’re conceding goals that are very avoidable at the minute and they’re putting us out of the game.

“Mistakes happen in football, but it seems at the minute that we’re making a lot more than other teams which is just killing us."

The Verdict

The Hatters have been poor for a couple of weeks now, and have to improve if there's any chance that they're going to stay in the division this season.

Seeing different teams make revivals will worry them, as Stoke won under their new manager, whilst Reading have pulled away from the drop zone under Mark Bowen. Sitting just one place above the relegation zone will be a warning sign to Jones and his side and they know they have to end this barren run.

The international break probably came at a good time for the side, as they can focus on the mistakes that they're making and try and look at ways to to win games of football.
