Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has criticised some fellow Championship clubs for making 'false allegations' as the EFL looked into 'Spygate'.

The Whites were fined £200,000 earlier this week as the EFL concluded it's investigation after Marcelo Bielsa admitted sending employees to watch opponents train all season.

However, whilst the process was ongoing, several Championship sides called for the Yorkshire side to be hit with a severe punishment.

Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown made his feelings clear after demanding Leeds were deducted points.

And, Kinnear responded, with the Yorkshire Evening Post revealing he had a strong message for his rivals in today's matchday programme.

"The fact that other clubs chose to publicly make and leak more serious and completely false allegations was ironic when our ultimate charge fell under ‘treating member clubs with the utmost good faith’.

"Ultimately, no specific regulation had been broken and there was no precedent for a specific sanction which made the calls for a points deduction patently ridiculous."

Leeds will look to move on from this now as they hope to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Marcelo Bielsa's side are third in the table ahead of today's game against Bolton.

The Verdict

You can understand the frustration from Leeds on this because many people were trying to stick the boot in when the news came out.

Talk of a points deduction was incredible and the incident got far too much hype and media coverage for a stage.

This should be the end of the matter now and the focus should go back on the football.
