Leeds United captain Liam Bridcutt believes the club should always be competing at the top end of the Sky Bet Championship reports the club’s official website.

Garry Monk has led Leeds to fourth in the Championship, where they look like challenging for promotion to the Premier League, something that seemed unlikely back in September, when the Whites were sat inside the relegation zone.

Since their relegation from the Premier League in 2004, Leeds have only gone close to a top-flight return on one occasion, when they lost the 2006 Play-Off final to Watford, making this season’s achievements even more remarkable.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Bridcutt confessed a club of Leeds’ size should always be in this position, he said: “This is probably one of the best seasons Leeds have had in 13 or 14 years.

“But this is a club that needs to be at the top end of the table.”

Bridcutt will lead his side into battle this weekend against their promotion rivals Brighton and Hove Albion, who are second in the Championship and looking to secure their automatic promotion place.

Victory for the Whites on Saturday evening will see them maintain their place in fourth, but also cut the gap to Brighton to just eight points with eight fixtures of the season remaining.
