Leeds United have recently announced that Pablo Hernandez has signed a new deal with the club, much to the delight of the Elland Road faithful.

The Spaniard has been a key member of Marcelo Bielsa's squad, and will be keen to build on some impressive showings so far this season.

Hernandez has scored two goals and been on hand to provide two assists this term, and will be confident in adding to that total as Leeds look to win a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League.

Speaking in an interview with Leeds' official website, Leeds' Director of Football Victor Orta issued high-praise for Hernandez, and tipped the midfielder to become a legend at the club in the future.

"I think Pablo is one of the best players I have worked with in my career.

"He has an amazing ability to change a game, he gets goals and assists in equal measure and he is someone that the rest of the squad can look up to.

"I’ve worked with talented players in the past, but you have to consider Pablo’s attitude and work ethic as well as his ability and I firmly believe the history books will show Pablo to be a true Leeds legend in years to come."

Orta also revealed that Hernandez had offers from other clubs during the summer, but insists that the midfielder believes in the project that is currently in place at Elland Road.

"Pablo had options in the summer, we had offers from clubs in England and teams overseas - but he believes in this project and knows he can play a huge part in the next two years."

Leeds are next in action this weekend when they take on relegation-threatened Luton Town at Kenilworth Road in a game where they'll be expected to pick up another win to keep the pressure on league leaders West Brom.

The Verdict:

This will have been a no-brainer for Leeds.

Hernandez has been their star man in recent seasons, and he's shown that he can still cut it at this level despite his age, which will have been a slight concern for some of the Elland Road faithful.

The Spaniard will be keen to get back to full fitness at the earliest of opportunities, so that he can play his part in their promotion bid this term, which has got off to a strong start under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.
