Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has revealed that the process to replace Eddie Nketiah is well underway and stated that they want to sort something as soon as possible.

The England U21 international joined the Whites in the summer and even though he played 17 league games for Leeds, scoring three goals, the vast majority of those appearances came from the bench due to the form of Patrick Bamford.

Therefore, Arsenal decided to recall the striker earlier this month and that has left Marcelo Bielsa short on option up top.

However, Kinnear made it clear in his programme notes ahead of today's game against Sheffield Wednesday, as revealed by reporter Adam Pope, that they are determined to secure a replacement.

"The process to find Eddie's replacement started as a contingency plan significantly before his departure. Targets were identified and clubs, players and agents have been engaged.

"Our objective is to move early in the window, but we will not do this at the expense of securing a player of the right calibre."

The verdict

This is a little insight into the work that goes on at Leeds and the fans will be pleased to see that they have been planning ahead knowing Nketiah may have left.

Importantly, Kinnear makes it clear that they aren't just going to sign a player for the sake of it and whilst some fans may see it as an excuse if nobody is brought in, it's the right approach.

The fans need to trust the recruitment team as they obviously want to bring someone in and it will be interesting to see if they can get a deal over the line.
