It was certainly a lively January transfer window for Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United, as they looked to make the necessary additions to their squad.

Leeds completed deals to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin, Ian Poveda and Elia Caprile during the winter transfer window.

The Whites are currently sat second in the Championship table, but will know that results simply have to improve in the near future if they're to stand any chance in winning a long-awaited return to the Premier League this term.

Leeds had a number of transfer targets during the January transfer window though, with the club's chief executive Angus Kinnear revealing that the likes of Che Adams, Dwight Gayle, Andre Gray and Jarrod Bowen were all potential targets for the Yorkshire-based side.

Speaking in an interview with Football Insider, former Leeds United defender Danny Mills questioned the club's transfer policy after this latest statement from Kinnear.

"You start to think how serious were they? Is it an attempt to appease the fans? I don’t know. Why are you coming out now and saying these things, what benefit is it to anybody?

"‘Oh look, we did try, honestly, promise. We really did try to get other players in and we couldn’t make it happen.’ Well, I don’t see the point in that to be honest, is that just trying to appease the fans?"

The former England full-back went on to question why the players they were reportedly interested in didn't sign for Leeds last month.

"I don’t think it really does because they’ll say why didn’t they come? Were you not prepared to pay the money or why didn’t we get these players in? I think that’ll be what part of the worry is."

Leeds are next in action when they take on promotion rivals Brentford at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Mills here.

Leeds wasted a significant amount of time in trying to sign the likes of Che Adams, where they could have targeted an alternative much earlier in the transfer window.

Whilst I think that Jean-Kevin Augustin will go on to make a positive impact for the Whites this season, he's still not match-fit, which is frustrating for both Marcelo Bielsa and the Elland Road faithful.

You have to feel as though if they had signed Augustin earlier in the transfer window, then they might not have dropped as many points as they did over January.
