It has been revealed that Massimo Cellino will eventually receive over £50m for the sale of Leeds United to Andrea Radrizzani.

Cellino’s company Eleonora Sport Limited have filed their accounts, which have revealed the fee that Radrizzani paid to purchase Leeds over the last 12 months.

If the accounts are accurate, Radrizzani paid an initial £45m to his fellow Italian businessman, with Cellino now due a further £8.5m from August of this year, meaning the club’s sale will reach £53.5m.

Radrizzani initially took a 50% share of Leeds in early 2017, before completing a 100% buyout of Cellino during the summer.

The ownership change during the summer ended a controversial reign for Cellino, who divided the club’s fanbase throughout his three years at Elland Road, as Leeds continued to struggle in the Sky Bet Championship, with a huge overhaul of players and head-coaches.

Since taking ownership of Leeds, Radrizzani has bought back Elland Road, whilst plans have also been revealed for a new training complex away from the club’s current Thorp Arch base.

However, on the field, Leeds’ long wait for a Premier League return looks set to continue, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side currently 11th in the Championship table.

The Verdict

It is good for Leeds’ supporters to be able to see how much Radrizzani paid to take control of the club from Cellino.

Under Cellino, Leeds were a divided club, but Radrizzani has done good things since his arrival, with Elland Road a much more positive place.

You can’t under estimate the significance of this sale.
