The demise of Hull City has been hugely frustrating for the club's supporters, with their spell in the Premier League feeling like a distant memory.

The Tigers dropped out of the top-flight at the first time of asking in the 2016/17 season, and it's safe to say that they haven't fared well since dropping back into the Championship.

They finished 18th in the Championship in the 2017/18 season, before finishing last year's league campaign in 13th position, which will be slightly encouraging.

Hull currently sit 16th in the Championship table this term, and supporters will be keen for their side to build on some impressive showings.

A considerable amount of the blame for the club's demise in recent years will fall at Ehab Allam's feet for many of the club's supporters.

In an exclusive interview with Hull Live, Hull's owner Ehab Allam spoke out on the club's recent seasons, which included words on Hull's falling attendances.

"There is a downward trend in general when a club gets relegated. Or there has been in the history of this club. I know it’s not the case elsewhere. Looking at clubs like Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, they’ve still got decent attendances after falling into League One. Leeds are the same."

"Everything is relative. Their attendance drop might not be as bad as ours but if you look historically, there’s always been significant drops. We’ve changed the way we report on attendances as well.

"We don’t give away many free tickets. When we first bought the club there was between 1,500 and 2,000 tickets being given away every game so that gave a false impression of attendances. We don’t do that. That figure is below 300."

When quizzed on whether he has had some impact on the falling attendances, Allam accepted some of the blame, but called on the club's supporters to back the team.

"Yes, of course I accept that. You only have to look at newspapers to see what’s gone on over the last few years. But we’ve done a lot to remedy that now. There’s no excuses. It’s time to support your team."

The Verdict:

It's good to hear him speaking out on the issue of falling attendances at Hull.

I feel as though the players need everyone to be pulling in the right direction, and I fully stand with the club's supporters that have stayed away due to the ownership situation.

But Hull have impressed me so far this season, and they only need to show some consistency in their performances to challenge for a top-six spot in my opinion.
