Shota Arveladze insists he has no concerns over Jacob Greaves even though the centre-back hasn't signed a new Hull City contract amid Middlesbrough's transfer interest.

It's no secret that Chris Wilder is keen to bring the youngster to the Riverside Stadium, with Boro having two offers already turned down for the player.

With Greaves entering the final 12 months of his deal, although there is a one-year option, the Tigers are keen to tie him down to a longer contract. However, so far they have failed to agree terms with the 21-year-old academy graduate.

Yet, speaking to Hull Live, Arveladze wasn't worried, as he revealed talks over an extension could resume in the future and he backed Greaves to continue to give his all when selected.

"I'm still comfortable because seeing him playing, training gives me a good feeling. I think there are some things that may not fit now, but may in a month or two months time. It's going to come and we'll find the best solution.

"Generally, if somebody wants to leave they'll leave anyway. The main point is it doesn't affect his game or his training sessions which I have to say, he does very well and I'm happy to have him here."

The verdict

It's far from ideal for Hull that Greaves hasn't signed a new deal, although with the option of another year it means they aren't in a desperate position.

Arveladze's comments indicate he is confident of keeping the player and crucially, as he says, there are no doubts about Greaves' commitment.

So, things may quieten down on the transfer front in the next few weeks if Boro don't return with another bid, but it could be one saga that's revisited in the next two windows until that contract is signed.
