Eric Lichaj has called on his Hull City teammates to stand up and be counted after losing their two best players in the January transfer window.

The Tigers endured a difficult final 24 hours in the transfer market as Kamil Grosicki completed a move to West Brom, while star man Jarrod Bowen also finalised his much-anticipated switch to West Ham United.

Grant McCann was able to bring in Marcus Maddison from Peterborough United but insisted that it's up to the entire squad to up their game in order to make up for two huge losses.

As quoted by Hull Live, Lichaj said: “It is (time) for myself, and everybody to step up because we lost two players.

“Everyone will be working hard trying to get into that team because I don’t think anybody’s place is safe for next games.

“The next three games, if we win three we look back at this and feel like saying ‘maybe we needed it, maybe we needed a little kick up the butt’. We will be on the training pitch working hard for the next game.”

“We have got a lot of healthy competition in every place, I don’t think everybody will be looking at themselves today saying their place is not safe in the team. We will see how the next week goes, it will be some hard work and some home truths on the training field but we will see how it gets on and hopefully, we could rectify it next week.”

Lichaj added: "It is a void that can be filled by the individuals that we have in our team to step up.

“It is a big opportunity for someone in the team to step up. They are big players, they were big players for us but it is then and gone, it is on to the next game. It is not good reminiscing about it, there is more games coming, there is a lot of games for the rest of the season and we are in a position that we could do something special this year.

“We need to get back to how we are winning games and making this place a fortress. We have hit a little bump basically and we need to just get back to basics and have a good, hard look at ourselves and get back to doing what we need to do in games to win games.”

The verdict

The loss of Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen is a massive loss.

Despite signing replacements in the shape of Marcus Maddison and James Scott, the guaranteed goals and creativity that the former players brought is a massive loss for Grant McCann's side.

It could be a difficult second half of the season for Hull as they look to adapt to life without the duo, andthat means that McCann could face a tough test to get his team firing.

It'll be up to everyone to make up the deficit and that starts now.
