Huddersfield Town chairman Phil Hodgkinson has revealed that he is 'fearful for football' as the game looks to cope with the current crisis.

As we know, there has been no football in this country since mid-March and there is still no concrete date for when the season will resume - even though there is an appetite to get back out there in the top two divisions at least.

And, whilst the Terriers chief is ready to complete the current season, he told the official site that he has serious worries about the long-term impact this will have on the game.

"Everyone has worked hard; we are three quarters of the way through the season. We are on board with that, but there’s a much bigger issue that needs to be discussed in tandem with that.

"I’m genuinely fearful for football if the authorities don’t get together now with the PFA and the other organisations and put something in place so that football can continue at every level whilst we get through this horrible pandemic we are going through."

The immediate focus for Danny Cowley and the team will be to stay in the Championship when they return, with Huddersfield just three points above the relegation zone.

The verdict

You can understand the point Hodgkinson is making and there's no denying that this is going to have a huge impact on football as we know it.

So, the perceived lack of action from the authorities that the Terriers chairman mentions is a worry and they will need to sort something as clubs won't be able to cope financially in the long run.

In the short-term, it's good to hear Huddersfield are eager to return and they will feel they have more than enough to stay up.
